I have never been one for the politics of envy. The fact that there are people who earn large sums of money doesn’t bother me. I say good on you to people who have done well for themselves. I do however have a problem, when I must pay the bill. This is even worse in the case of the BBC where I do not have a choice.
Given the way the BBC is funded it is impossible to say whether these salaries represent market value. Some of them however are surely inflated. By privatising the organisation, the free market will correct this, moving prices towards equilibrium. As an example, Chris Evans could easily be replaced, without significant loss of listeners, for a fraction of the cost.
The other issue which should concern anyone who believes in liberty, is choice. We cannot avoid the licensee fee. How non-payment of the fee remains a criminal offence is beyond me. Surely, we should have a choice as to which broadcaster to fund, based on our own individual preferences. The BBC has become the mouth piece for the illiberal politically correct elements of the centre left. The fact that we are forced to fund this is both a violation of our liberty and tantamount to theft. To paraphrase an idiot this is a “micro aggression” against libertarians.
